52 Frames: Frame #8 – Uncommon

This week was the perfect opportunity to use a technique I’ve always wanted to try…forced perspective (an uncommon way to look at things). One aspect of forced perspective is to make the viewer believe that certain objects are smaller or larger than they actually are.

I walked around a bit and tried different ideas to make the photo come to life. I finally discovered that the DC Washington Memorial was the ideal landmark to try this experiment with. It took a few tries, but I had a lot of fun in the process.

Here is the final result!

52 Frames: Frame #7 – City at Night

Hi Guys!

I shot Frame #7 for the challenge, City at Night.

There were a lot of possibilities for night photos, but I wanted to do something different from my previous evening shots.

While shooting the night photo, on a whim I decided to shoot in black and white. When I compared the color and black and white photos, the contrast was unbelievable.

The color photos were nice, but I really loved how the black and white photos had an edginess to it.

Did I mention it was raining? I was soaking wet, but I was determined to get the shot. In the end, it worked out.  I think the wet pavement added a nice effect.

52 Frames: Frame #6 – Your Desk!

I wanted to share my week six photo for the 52 Frames theme, “Your Desk!”.

For the last few weeks, I’ve dedicated time to working on the 52 Frames project at my home office (i.e. coming up with ideas for themes, mapping out shooting locations, and editing photos) and I wanted to highlight that.

I also wanted to document how far I’ve come in the project and you’ll see a hint of that too. 🙂

52 Frames: Frame #4 – Macro

Hi Guys!

I wanted to share frame #4 from the 52 Frames Challenge which is “Macro”!

Macro photography is the art of taking close-up photos that highlight details you may not catch with the naked eye.

I chose a tiger lily as my subject because it’s one of my favorite flowers. Macro photography was a great way to bring out the details of the lily (such as the curl of the petals, the colors, and the lovely spots).

52 Frames: Frame #3 – Hello From…Washington DC!

This weekend, I captured frame three for the 52 frames challenge. The 52 Frames community has photographers from all over the world and this week we were challenged to share our corner of it.

Washington DC is a great city! It’s known for it’s historic monuments and memorials.

I wanted to showcase a unique structure known as the Air Force Memorial. The memorial is a tribute to the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Air Force.

The structure’s soaring spires reaches the height of 270 feet and can be seen for miles. A hidden fact about the memorial is that it emulates a famous maneuver by the US Air Force Thunderbirds known as the High Bomb Burst!

If you are ever in the area, I recommend planning a short visit here. It’s amazing to see this memorial up close!

52 Frames: Frame #2 – Red Snowbird

I couldn’t believe my luck this morning when I looked outside! There was an amazing winter wonderland scene and this magnificent, red beauty perched on my neighbor’s fence.

It took a little patience, but I finally got a shot of the little guy!

Happy New Year!

A new year means new opportunities for photo challenges. I recently found a wonderful community of photographers at 52frames.com!

Each week, a new assignment is given that will challenge photographers to elevate their photography skills.

The first assignment of the year…Self Portraits! I typically shy away from being in front of the camera, but I knew it would be a great learning experience.

I took a lot of selfies, but finally settled on a simple self portrait to share on the blog that I liked.
